Last week the EDHEC Cup Regatta, known in France as Course Croisière EDHEC gathered more than 6,000 students for the biggest student competition in Europe. More than 10,000 visitors witnessed this international sailing competition.
The EDHEC Regatta, which was launched in 1969 by three EDHEC students, is celebrating its forty-years of history this year. Organised by a team of EDHEC students, this competition is the largest student sporting event in Europe. The EDHEC regatta is a race where motivated students form teams with companies and world famous skippers such as Marc Thiercelin, Joe Seeten and Franck Cammas come to compete and to share great moments of conviviality.
This sailing competition, popular among European business schools and engineering schools launched its first race on Monday 21st of April and for a full week different races took place off one of the most prestigious harbours of the French Atlantic Coast, Les Sables d'Olonne to allow boats of all sizes to participate Sponsored by French celebrities Maud Fontenoy and Patrick Poivre d'Arvor, this week-long sailing extravaganza revealed the best sailors among 160 crews representing more than 20 nations.
Around the sporting aspect of the EDHEC Regatta, the week is the occasion for many students to do networking and meet well-established companies and sponsors such as HSBC, Xerox or Ernst and Young were present at the sponsors' village. The Institutional Stands were occupied by companies exposing their products and representatives were on hand to discuss job opportunities with students. It was an ideal informal meeting place for professionals and students who were able to discuss in a relaxed environment. Of course during the evening, all the the participants were invited under the marquee to experience a lively party! This year, EDHEC students raised more than 2 million euros of sponsoring.
HSBC-France: While sponsoring the EDHEC Regatta Cup, HSBC joins itself to sailing and to a multi-sport event, whose values are shared with those of the firm: dynamism, performance and team spirit. The EDHEC Cup is an opportunity for our bank to be close to students in a different environment. It is also an opportunity for the firm to show its positioning: to be open-minded means to be able to understand the difference in point of view.
