After Bachelor graduation from my university in China, I came to EDHEC to continue my Master study, not only because all the Marketing course was in English but also because of the international internship experience I could get and which I knew would be a good beginning for my future career.
Besides a professional marketing course, the student life that EDHEC offered was valuable for me. I was involved in many student activities and I also had a part-time student assistantship at the School.
EDHEC was looking for someone to carry out a survey for the international graduates and for 4 months I was actively involved in this project and I really feel I learned a lot:
First, I got to know about real marketing surveys and marketing research by designing the questionnaires and analysing them on my own, which was just the combination with the theoretical knowledge I was learning in my daily courses.
Second, this job also gave me a chance to learn how to communicate with people in a professional situation as I integrated a team of 7 people who also had an interest in the survey and I learned the importance of efficiency, professionalism and deadlines.
Third, one which I think is the most important, as an Asian student, I found how to work in a multi-cultural environment before I entered the real working environment in Europe. The end of the survey involved telephone interviews with graduates all over the world which was particularly interesting.
I'm sure this experience helped me get my first professional intern contract in Hewlett Packard where I am now. It proved to my company my capacity to communicate, negotiate and analyze in a real work environment and both this and my theoretical knowledge from my coursework certainly convinced them that I was the right person for the job!
